Windmills North West of Amarillo in Texas
Osprey near Amarillo, Texas (use your imagination)
Biggest little train in Texas!!!!
Two Engines and two cars!
Day 2- Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Pulling out of Goodlett, Texas around 7:45 am we encountered a strange looking two car train with two engines. It was the shortest little train in Texas!!!
Nearing Amarillo, Texas we spotted a strange object in the sky. It was an Osprey...or one of those hybrid airplane/helicopter military air craft.
The wind continued to pick up. As we continued past Amarillo we saw an area with approximately 100 of the modern windmills in the distance. Today was a great day for them, with the amazing might of the wind.
Entering New Mexico we visted the visitor center and gathered a lot of literature about the various valcanoes in the area. A couple we would like to visit: The Ice Valcano and Capulin Valcano.
The wind continued to pick up as we marveled at the beauty of this part of New Mexico. Utterly amazing!!!! Listening to the truckers talk on the CB radio their conversations revolved around the ever increasing wind. One trucker mentioned that a family camper flipped near Arizona.
All of the rest stops we encountered along this stretch of New Mexico were closed. We decided to pull off the freeway onto an isolated part of the feeder road that had a wide section with a couple of 18 wheelers parked there. We ate lunch and watched 100s of bees buzz our windows. After lunch we took a 20 minute siesta and headed back down the highway toward Gallup.
Lava flowed from a nearby valcano millions of years ago. The dark, well preserved lava looked as though it had erupted and cooled only yesterday. You could still see the ripples in the flow.
We reached the All American RV park about 7:00 pm . This is a wonderful RV park, that is well maintained and has wonderful ammenities. The price was very reasonable. The store had incredible gift ideas and knick knacks. The only thing missing was windshield wipper blades. One of our's became a casulty at some point during the high wind.
Caylin swam in what was suppose to be a heated pool at the RV Park. An American Flag was painted at the bottom of the pool and live music from a one man band streamed out into the air.
Walking back to our RV we spotted what appeared to be granny and papo...a airstream being pulled with a black pickup truck that had a camper. Unfortunately, it was only wishful thinking, this rig was from Virginia.
We decided we wouldn't mind living in Gallup, New Mexico during the summer! At 6,480 feet, the weather was chilly. This morning, we woke up to 56 degree F, temperatures in the RV. What temperature did you wake up to???
