 One of my ancestors, Private John Henry Chandler of Waul's Texas Legion, was taken prisoner at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863, paroled about a month later after signing a document that he would not take up arms against the United States again. He later returned to his regiment and at he end of the war was discharged at Galveston and then returned to his family in Leon County.
