Gunnison to Monarch Pass

The road to Monarch Pass is 7 miles and at times it seems like at a 90 degree angle!   Once again...guard rails were scarce!

The grade was pretty intense.  Caylin and I drove separately.  Aaron and Randy took the RV.  Randy moved in behind an 18 wheeler with its emergency flashers flashing and turned his on too.

Photos courtesy of Aaron.  Caylin and I were in the hummer behind the RV...stressing out.  The more nervous I got...the more Gracie started whimpering and crying.

seven miles seemed to go on forever!!!

Yikes!!!! No guard rails....yes, that is the edge of the mountain.

What's missing in this picture?  Oh yes, the guard rails!!!

Finally at the summit.  Time for a break!!!

Cable cars...Aaron thought about going ...

Once down from Monarch Pass....we ran into Walter White and Jessie.

We've seen lots of Birch Trees on this trip.  They are great pioneer species especially in secondary succession!

Storms looming....heading toward Great Sand Dunes National Park

We've passed many dust devils!

Loving the flat road!!!
