DAY 3-Monday, June 15th 2009.....the road to Cortez, Colorado from Gallup, New Mexico

Road from
Gallup, New Mexico to Cortez, Colorado!!!!

What is in your windshield?!?!?

We left Gallup around 11:00 am our time. Prairie Dogs can be seen everywhere!!!!We passed Ship Rock!!! What an amazing rock structure to see in the distance and to slowly approach. Lunch in a store parking lot in Cortez, Colorado. From Cortez we ventured West on our way to Moab. Stopped briefly at the visitor center in Monticello. There we met a wonderful and extremely helpful man who had retired from the BLM. We talked with him about Boon Docking on BLM land. He gave us a tour through the small muesum that was attached to the visitor's center. There they had EKG machines from the 1950's and on. Lots of very neat things on display. He spoke with us about the DOE and Uranium mining. Out on the back porch he had dinosaur footprints and other interesting fossils. We headed North to Moab and camped at the RV Park we stayed out on our last visit out here three years ago, Moab RV Resort near Arches. The pool was actually heated at this RV resort, so we spent an hour or so swimming. After our swim we played life-sized checkers with a Chess Set (the Checker's Set was being used by a young couple). Playing checkers using chess pieces took some creativity on Aaron's part!!! But it was done :) In honor of our long family RV trip, we honored our family tradition and watched "RV" with Robin Williams. This movie is great, no matter how many times you've seen it!!! We also stopped at the City Market in Moab. As we shopped we noticed all of the Kroger Price Cut tags.....it was a pleasant surprise to find out they are affliated with Kroger and our Koger Cards worked for getting all of the discounts. Our cashier was a very talkative and nice retired, one armed gentleman. His talk was all political. He told us he has never owned stock but now we all own a piece of G.M. We humored him and chuckled with him. You can find some very interesting people in Utah!
